Something About A Song

Theresa is without a doubt my greatest inspiration. She is my friend, lover and companion. She sees all, knows all, and understands my love affair with creativity, inspiration, and the written word. I cannot tell you how many of my songs and poems have been inspired by, or written specifically for her, but I do have my favorites. Song Of No Returning is not one of them. Imagining myself without Theresa is exactly how this song came about. The lyrics lend themselves to a melody that is celtic in style and would probably have suited what Van Morrison was doing back when he was working with the Chieftans. Song Of No Returning, is all about family, love, honesty and departure.

Song Of No Returning

Where are you going my only true love?
Where are you going my dear?
Off on a ramble away from your home,
off to the city so fair.
Bring me my daughter,
bring me my son,
kiss me my darling I'm gone.
Where are you going my only true love,
and when will you be coming home?

Why are you leaving my only true love?
Why are you leaving me now?
Why are you taking my heart far away
to a place where love is not allowed
Bring me your honesty,
bring me your tears,
but don't ever leave me alone.
Why are you leaving my only true love,
and when will you be coming home?

When will I see you my only true love?
When will I see you again?
Will sadness and sorrow that shadows my heart
take it's leave or must I pretend?
Promise me now there is no other love
promise me before you go.
When will I see you my only true love,
and when will you be coming home?
